With the release of the new iPhone 4, it makes you wonder what is the need for a digital stills camera anymore. Since I have received my iPhone for free from freebiejeebies, my digital camera has not seen the light of day.
The iPhone 4′s new camera will take images up to 5 mega-pixels, which is far larger than any normal user would ever need, especially when you take into consideration that HD televisions are only 2.3 mega-pixels.
Digital cameras are now turning to gimmicks to keep the gadget ‘genre’ alive, with Nikon’s recent attempts of integrating a digital projector into their compact cameras, allowing the user to project the images they’ve taken to show their friends. Sadly for Nikon, this is also something that will be included in mobile phones at some point, although not for a few years. It’s only a matter of time now until digital cameras will be nothing but kids toys.
